Saving Money at Safeway - Day After the Beach Edition

Sunday I was dog-tired from a fabulous day at the beach with my hubbie and littles. The last thing I wanted to do is go to the grocery store - sans hubbie. He was at work. But with a little planning, I was able to get in and out of the grocery store quickly. You can do it too! This is what I did to make my life easier.

1. I prepped my grocery list on Thursday night by matching my coupons to the sales ad. I knew that I wouldn't be home on Friday night so I did this ahead of time.

2. I checked my favorite blogs to make sure I didn't miss any great deals.

3. I went to Safeway's website and created my shopping list using their weekly ad. Their site is soooo easy to use. :) All you do is click the items you want to ad and print.

4. The most important thing of all when shopping with children. I promised them a treat if they were good!

Here are a couple of the great deals I was able to snag....

(4) Assorted Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Crackers, $2.19 each
-$1.31/1 X 4 Club Card savings
-.50/1 X 4 Goldfish printable, doubled
-.50/1 Shortcuts e-coupon
Price: FREE!!! Plus 98 cents overage!

(3) Kraft Salad Dressing, $3.29 each
-$1/1 Kraft Salad Dressing 6/6 SS
Price: 49 cents each plus $2 OYNO for buying 3 - looks like I made 53 cents on that deal :)

(2) Ball Park Hot Dogs, $3.99 each
-$2.49/1 X 2 Club Card Savings
-.75/1 X 2 Ball Park printable (no longer available)
Final Price: FREE!!!

On this trip, I received $157.40 worth of groceries for $46.99! That is a savings of 70%! Plus I received a coupon for $2 OYNO, a free gallon of milk OYNO and mailed away for a $6 rebate. Not too bad for a Sunday afternoon!

Sears Spend $50 Get $50

Sears is having an awesome deal right now! Spend $50 on men's apparel and receive $50 in Sears Come Back Cash. The Sears Come Back Cash is a store certificate. The only hitch is the Come Back Cash can only be used on more men's apparel. The rebate runs from 6/11/10 to 6/20/10 and can be submitted by mail or online. You can shop on the Sears website or in the store. Remember to shop through Ebates to earn an extra 4% if you decide to purchase the items online.

We went over to Sears this morning because my husband needed some work pants. We were able to get him 2 pairs of pants and a belt for just over $50. I will submit the rebate online and once we receive it, he can get another $50 of clothes. Woo hoo! Nothing like spending $50 bucks on a $100 bucks worth of clothes!

Staples Trip

We stopped at Staples tonight to take advantage of a rebate offer on paper. Paper is essential for printing coupons and I usually get mine for free. :) There is a rebate on Hammermill Paper until 6/12. Each ream of paper is $1 after rebate. Limit 2 reams.

(2) Hammermill Paper reams, $6.49 each
-$6 Staples Ink Rewards (from recycling my ink cartridges)
Total Due: $7.33

Now I can submit for the rebate online and they will mail me a check from $10.98. That is one of the great things about Staples rebates, you can submit them online so you don't even have to pay for a stamp. So "buying" paper tonight was a $3.65 moneymaker for me! Plus two FREE reams of paper. :)

I had tried to use (2) $1/2 Classico Sauce printables but the manager wouldn't let me. She said that the $1.50 off ground beef coupons applied to the Classico Sauce as well. I tried to explain that the coupon clearly stated that it was $1.50 off ground beef when you buy Classico sauce so the coupon applied to the ground beef. She didn't except that and I didn't feel like fighting over $2. Oh well....I still had a great trip!

I made $6.99 at Staples!

We went out with the kids tonight to do a little deal shopping after we hit the playground. First stop was Staples to use up my Staples Rewards certificates. I have $36.00 in rewards from recycling my ink cartridges. You get $3 per cartridge and you can recycle up to 10 cartridges a month. At the end of the month, they email you your reward. I have $18 in rewards from February and $18 from March. Staples paid me to bring home the following stuff. :)

2 Gourmet Lollipops, $1
1 XL Cyan Ink Cartridge, $14.99
1 XL Magenta Ink Cartridge, $14.99
1 Ream of 50% Recycled Paper, $8.99
-$6.01 (15% off your total order coupon)
-$18.00 February Staples Reward
-$18.00 March Staples Reward
Total Due: NOTHING! Completely FREE!

My total was actually less than my coupons so I received back a $2.04 Staples Reward to use on my next purchase. And here is the best part - there was a rebate for the ream of paper. So I can submit for the $6.99 rebate! Staples just paid me $6.99 plus I paid nothing for all my wonderful office supplies. :)

My Favorite Deals this Week

I didn't do much shopping this week because my pantry and freezer are both full and well let's face it - exploding. We need to use up what we have before we hit any expiration dates. So I am trying a semi-pantry challenge for the next two weeks. We are basically eating from our freezer and pantry except we will buy fresh produce, milk, cheese and bread as needed. I also bought a few things that were FREE or really cheap. :) So hard to pass up those deals! Here are a few of my favs this week:

Goldfish are on sale at Safeway until 3/2/10 for $1.75. Use this .75/1 printable to get them for 25 cents each!

Fiber One Yogurt is on sale at Harris Teeter BOGO for $1.47 each. Use this .75/1 printable to get it for FREE!

Michele's Mailbox

All this stuff came in the mail this week and it's only Tuesday! So far I have received the following....

*My Staples Rewards gift certificate for $26.70. The majority of this reward was from a deal at Staples in December where you purchased up to two 20-packs of Duracell batteries for $12.99 each. Then you received a Staples Reward for the full amount...making them FREE! I am so thankful for this reward because I recently broke the memory card for our camera. This will pay for a new one and I can probably still get a pack of printer paper too! Because you know I need paper to print my coupons. :)

*A $25 Target Gift Card! This is a reward from MyPoints. If you haven't heard of MyPoints, you earn points by shopping through their site, reading emails, and completing surveys. I just read the emails and complete surveys. Once you have enough points, you can cash them in for gift cards. If you are interested in signing up with MyPoints, let me know and I can send you a referral email.:) It's FREE!!!

*Coupons for FREE Oreo Cakesters and a $1 off Oreo Cakesters. These coupons came from Kraft First Taste. This is a Kraft site you can join to give feedback on their products. I have received coupons for many products including Digiorno Pizza, Wheat Thins, and Easy Mac. Most of their coupons are either for FREE products or are high value.

*Two coupons for $1 off Gorton's Seafood. I sent an email to Gorton's because one of the boxes of fish filets we purchased was short a filet. Gorton's was nice enough to send me some coupons for my trouble. :)

*My first Big Fat Check from Ebates for $14.92! Shop at tons of different stores like Old Navy, Target, Gap, Staples....the list goes on and on! My recent deal at OldNavy.com scored me some cash toward my next Big Fat Check. Woo hoo! When you shop through Ebates you earn a percent of your order back. These amounts acrue in your amount and are paid out quarterly. My check is for purchases made between October 1 and December 31 and was paid out on February 15.

I just love checking the mail! Don't you?

Awesome Target Deal!

I went over to Target on my lunch break yesterday to pick up Valentine's Day treats for the hubs and kiddies. While I was there, I thought I would take advantage of a great deal on razors. Target has Venus Embrace razors on sale for $6.99 this week and when you buy 2, you get a $5 gift card. Great deal but when paired with coupons and rebates you get a money making deal. :) Here's the rundown...

Buy the following:
(2) Venus Embrace Razors for $6.99 each
(2) Olay Body Wash for $5.49 each

Use the following Q's:
(2) $2/1 Venus Embrace MQ from PG 2/7 insert
(2) Buy Venus Embrace Get a FREE Olay Body Wash MQ from PG 2/7 insert

Total: $9.98
PLUS you receive a $5 Target gift card

Then in a seperate transaction I purchased another Olay Body Wash for $5.49. I used a $1/1 Olay Body Wash Q and paid the $4.76 balance with my $5 gift card. No out of pocket. :)

Now I am going to take my receipts and mail away for the new Olay rebate. Buy (3) Olay Facial Mosturizers, Facial Treatments, Facial Cleansers, Hand & Body Lotions, Body Washes, or 6+ Bar Soap Packs and receive $15 via mail in rebate. Purchase must be made between 2/12/10 and 3/12/10. Funny thing about this all? I didn't even know about the rebate until AFTER I did the deal. Talk about lucky. :)

As you can see, I paid $0 out of pocket for the body wash and I will be receiving $15 by mail-in rebate. $15 MONEY MAKER! Wondering how I will get $15 bucks when I paid nothing out of pocket? Manufacturers generally calculate rebates by the price of the product BEFORE coupons. So using coupons, sales, and gift card deals just got me 3 FREE body washes AND $15. Sounds like a good deal to me!

Safeway Deals

We are predicted to get 20-30 inches of snow in our area. Huge storm! My work let us out early so we could get home before the major weather started. I decided to stop by Safeway on my way home to grab a couple of deals. One of the deals I wanted was only from 2/5-2/7 and I didn't want to chance not being able to run out again to grab it.

Here's the breakdown:

(2) Trix Cereal and (2) Fruity Cheerios Cereal, $2.50 each
-$4 Instant Savings WYB 4 boxes
-$1/1 X 2 Trix printable
-.75/1 X 2 Cheerios printable, doubled
-.55/1 Trix Shortcuts e-coupon
Final Price: 45 cents for 4 boxes!!!!

(2) Johnsonville Brats and (2) Johnsonville Italian Sausage, $3.49 each
-$4 Safeway SuperCoupon (in Safeway ad - brings price to $2.49 each)

-$6 Instant Savings WYB 3
-$1/1 X 2 Freschetta printable
-$1/1 Digiorno MQ
Final Price: $2.99 each

My total before sales and coupons was $52.89. Total after $15.59, which is a savings of 72%! I was happy to get a good deal on frozen pizza. We rarely buy it, but a frozen pizza is great to have in the freezer on those nights you are just plain tired and tempted to order takeout. You can throw the pizza in the oven and toss together a garden salad instead of eating out and that saves big bucks. :)

Great Old Navy Deal through Feb 4!

We all know that I love rebates and I especially love it when I can combine coupons, sales, and rebates. Usually I am referring to food, but this time I am talking about Old Navy!

Old Navy has a coupon code out right now, which is good until 2/4. Enter ONSAVEBIG at checkout and receive 15% off your order plus FREE shipping for orders over $50. You don't have to spend $50 to use the code. You will still receive 15% off and Old Navy has a standard shipping rate of $7. Not bad.

To sweeten this deal, sign up at Ebates to receive 20% back on your Old Navy purchase. What is Ebates you ask? It is a website that you shop through to earn cashback on your online purchases. I used Ebates to do my online shopping at Christmas and earned $20 just by shopping through their site. You will receive a $5 bonus for signing up for an Ebates account. Ebates pays out their rebates quarterly. My Christmas shopping was in the 4th quarter (October 1 - December 31) so my check will go out on February 15. Purchases from January 1 - March 31 pay out on May 15. You can choose to receive a check or have the money deposited into your PayPal account. :)

To take advantage of the most savings at Old Navy, follow these steps.

*Go to Ebates and login or sign up for an account.
*Search for Old Navy in the store search box in the upper right hand corner.
*Click on the Shop Now box. It should say "Cashback 20%" next to the Shop Now box.
*This will start a tracking ticket and take you to OldNavy.com.
*Select the items you would like to purchase.
*When you checkout at Old Navy, type ONSAVEBIG in the coupon code box. This will take off 15% and give you free shipping if your order is over $50.
*The 20% Ebates rebate for your transaction should be credited to your Ebates account within a couple of days. :)

Happy Shopping!

I scored 4 FREE containers Breakstone Sour Cream last month by using a similar coupon. My HT had sour cream on sale for 99 cents and by using a .55/1 coupon that doubled....you got it for FREE! I am hoping someone will come out with a good sale before the coupon expires. I would love to get my sour cream free this month too. :)

Dole 30-Day Challenge Rebate

If you are a fruit loving family like ours, the Dole 30-Day Challenge Rebate might be for you. It works like this - buy 30 days worth of Dole fruit bowls and receive free item coupons for 2 weeks worth. Dole defines 30 days worth of fruit as (8) 4-packs of fruit bowls, gels, or parfaits. You mail the rebate form, receipt(s) and UPCs from the 8 packages and Dole sends you (4) FREE item coupons for fruit bowls, gels or parfaits. What an awesome deal and in a way this works out as a moneymaker for me. :) Here is how I did it:

At Safeway I bought -
(4) Dole Fruit Bowls, $1.49 each
Used .50/2 X 2 Dole Fruit Bowls MQ, doubled
Total after coupons: $3.96 for 4

At Harris Teeter I bought -
(2) Dole Fruit Bowls, $1.99 each
(2) Dole Fruit Parfaits, $1.99 each
Used .50/2 Dole Parfaits MQ, doubled and .50/1 Dole printable MQ, doubled
Used $3.50 OYNO
Total after coupons: $2.46 for 4

Total Out of Pocket for (8) Dole Fruit Bowls/Parfaits: $6.42

Receive (4) FREE item coupons = Value of $7.96

So in the end I will essentially have 12 packages of Dole fruit bowls for FREE. :)

Printable Rebates

If you have been reading my blog, you know that I love, love, love rebates. One of the types of rebates that I complete are through beer manufacturers. The majority of the rebates are no beer purchase required (NBPR). I usually find beer rebates at the grocery store but Coors Light has decided to offer a rebate on their website. This is the first printable NBPR rebate I have ever seen. :)

There are four rebates available here. Two of the rebates are NBPR required. These rebates are so easy to complete. Make sure your state is listed as participating and take a look at this post from last year if you would like help with completing them.

My Favorite Printables and Coupon Booklets

$1/1 Quaker Oatmeal (on sale at Safeway this week for $1.50 each WYB 3)

.55/1 Johnsonville Sausage (on sale at Harris Teeter this week for $2.99)

Booklet with $10 worth of coupons for Betty Crocker products

The coupon booklets must be ordered and will be mailed to the address you provide. Happy Couponing!

Stacking Coupons at Target

My daughter has a birthday party to attend this weekend so I made a trip to Target on my lunch break to grab a gift. While I was there I planned on getting some cereal and juice. Unfortunately, they were all out of the juice that would have cost me 50 cents a bottle. :( They did have the cereal I was looking for though.

This is a great example of why I love Target! You can stack coupons. Don't know what stacking is? Here is a quick rundown....stacking is when you use a store coupon and a manufacturer's coupon on the same item. So I grabbed the hubs some cereal for FREE. Want to know how I got FREE cereal?

Kashi Go Lean Crunch
Regular Price: $3.84 each
Sale Price: $2.75 each
Coupons: -.75/1 printable TQ and -$2/1 MQ from a sample I requested
Final Price: FREE, absolutely FREE

I knew I saved high value coupons for a reason. I had that Kashi coupon kicking around in my coupon binder for a few months. It was just asking to be used on a sale like this. :)

December Grocery Total

I was concerned this month because I knew it was going to be difficult to stay under my monthly budget with all the holidays and busyness in December. December has 4 weeks so my budget was $320.00 ($80 X 4). I did go over a bit but with the help of last month's overage of $42.66 and $40.67 that I received in food item rebates this month, I was only $5.14 over my budget! Not too bad considering that I hosted Christmas Eve dinner for 11 family members this year and hubbie made a not-so-cheap New Year's Eve dinner of shrimp and steak fajitas. :) Here is how I did:

Monthly Food Budget: $320.00

December Grocery Purchases: $408.47

Rebate Checks Received: $40.67

Remaining November Grocery Budget: $42.66

Purchases minus Rebates/November Remaining: $325.14

Over by $5.14. :( Oh well, I will just have to work harder next month. My budget for next month will be $400.00 since January has 5 weeks. I will start with $394.86 because I was over for December.
